Video Games in 2013

As yet another year draws to a close the gaming community are still reflecting on 2012’s winners and losers. However, even more important is the coming year, which is already shaping up to be an extravaganza of gaming goodness. Here is a quick guide to just some of the top titles available to you in the New Year:

Aliens: Colonial Marines: Based in the universe of Ridley’s Alien series, the game follows the story of a colonial marine squad investigating a spacecraft crawling with a variety of alien enemies, includes 4 player co-op and competitive multiplayer. Sure to sate the thirst of any Alien fans out there, Aliens: Colonial Marines is out Febuary 12th on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. Developed by Gearbox Software, published by Sega.

The world of Bioshock Infinite’s Columbia is a sprawling, floating American metaphor of a setting.

Bioshock Infinite: Believed to be the spiritual sequel to the original masterpiece Bioshock (2008), Infinite is looks a treat with it’s unique setting and open-world inspired gameplay. In particular, the relationship between protagonist Booker DeWitt and companion Elizabeth appears to have delicious depth.  Released on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 on March 26th. Developed by Irrational Studios, published by 2K Games.

Rayman Legends: Following up on the creative success of Rayman Origins, this WII U exclusive promises to provide all that made its predecessor wonderful and more, with 5 player Co-op and full utilization of the new WII U remote it’s sure to be bursting with charm and fun. Due out 1st March. Developed by Ubisoft Montpellier, published by Ubisoft.

Watch Dogs: The surprise announcement of 2012 E3 (the Electronic, Entertainment Expo), this new IP looks to change the face of modern gaming. Set in a “realistic and living open world” (IGN) where the player has the ability to intercept tech such as phones and traffic lights to use to their advantage. Release date: TBA 2013, as of yet only announced for PC. Developed by Ubisoft Montreal, published by Ubisoft.

Tomb Raider: Lara Croft returns in her first fully fledged game since 2008’s Tomb Raider: Underworld, this reboot is becoming more exciting with each showing. Boasting a plot designed to test Lara’s survival instincts to the limit and develop her as a character, this tile has impressed both critics and fans of the series. Out 5th March on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. Developed by Crystal Dynamics, published by Square Enix.

South Park: The Stick of Truth: A downloadable title promising humour and originality, South Park: The Stick of Truth is an RPG in which you play the new kid on the block looking to prove yourself to Stan, Kyle, Kenny and Cartman as you embark on an adventure to obtain the legendary ‘stick of truth’. Release date: TBA 2013 on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. Developed by Obsidian Entertainment, published by THQ.

  1. I admit I have missed out a few other games off the list, including Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch, I apologise for this, it’s hard to chose which to include out of so many great looking games.
