Performing Arts Rack Up Curtain Call Nominations

Hailed as the ‘Oscars of the South’, the Daily Echo’s Curtain Call gives out numerous awards every year for the best in amateur dramatics. This year sees SUSU’s Performing Arts being rewarded with an astounding 15 nominations.

Performing Arts Officers 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 had this to say about the nominations:

‘We are ecstatic at today’s nominations from the Daily Echo Curtain Call Awards. We are really proud that the hard work Performing Arts members put into their shows is being rewarded. It is an exciting time for the PA and we wish all individuals and production teams the best of luck.’

Showstoppers’ Spring Awakening

Previous winners include Hannah Cutting for Theatre Group’s Rhinoceros, Mathew Ronchetti for Showstoppers’ Jekyll and Hyde, which won Production of the Year, and Jenny Deacon for Showstoppers’ Company.

  1. Cally, Jez Roberts is nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a Shakespeare play, not plays in general. Just a minor editing note 🙂

  2. A few other small changes- Vicky and Sev choreographed and were nominated for The Wedding Singer and Jenny Deacon won her Curtain Call for her performance in Showstoppers’ Company.

    But thank you so much for writing this article! Really appreciate SUSU media recognising just how much talent and hard work goes in to our shows. If people haven’t seen one of our student productions before, there’s never been a better time! 😀
