Familiar

Muse's new single contains a number of core elements which many will recognise from previous releases.

‘Mercy’ will instantly sound familiar to anyone who has listened to a Muse track in recent years. Elements such as the anthemic, slightly orchestral piano driven melody layered over a heavy drum beat, the deep and emotional lyrics pleading for salvation and the soft harmonies accompanying Matt Bellamy’s voice during the refrain are all here, just as they were in tracks from previous albums.

All these techniques create a catchy listen with a memorable chorus – it just happens to sound a bit too much like a rehash of songs from the band’s past.

‘Mercy’ was released on 18 May 2015 via Warner Bros Records.
