Once Upon A Time has added King Arthur to its fairytale fantasy.

Entertainment Weekly has reported that British actor, Liam Garrigan (24: Live Another Day) is set to portray King Arthur. The character will first appear in the season five premiere and will then be a recurring character throughout the series.

King Arthur has yet to be mentioned in the fairytale series, but it was announced last week that Lancelot (Singqua Walls)- who was disgraced from the legendary Round Table over a woman in season four -will be returning as a recurring character. The woman is question, is most likely to be Guinevere, King Arthur’s eternal love – who has yet to be cast.

Excecutive producers Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis have explained their reasoning for featuring Camelot in season five: “As we do on Once Upon a Time, we’re doing our own twist on Camelot, on Arthur’s background and on his relationships with Merlin, Guinevere and Lancelot.”

Camelot is set to play a major role in the fifth season, after the revelation that Merlin may be the only one able to save the series’ self-sacrificing protagonist, Emma Swan – who put herself forward and ruined her own happy ending with Captain Hook to become the Dark One in place of ex-evil Queen Regina.

It was also announced recently that the pregnant Wicked Witch of the West, Zelena (Rebecca Mader) and Robin Hood (Sean Maguire) have been promoted to season five regulars.

Once Upon a Time returns for a fifth season in September on Netflix. Watch the heartbreaking final scene of the season 4 finale below.
