Michelle MacLaren departs DC’s Wonder Woman movie

The talented director of several excellent episodes of shows such as The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones has left the chair of DC’s upcoming Wonder Woman project.

Originally hired in November after a long search for a director, MacLaren’s exit is sad news for fans of good cinema.

Echoing not just Edgar Wright’s exiting of Ant-Man last year but also Patty Jenkins’ from Thor: The Dark World back in 2012, this will likely spark many conversations about the state of equality in blockbuster movie directing.

This would have been MacLaren’s feature debut, after proving herself a capable director and producer of numerous shows.

Wonder Woman will star Gal Gadot as the titular Amazonian Warrior Princess. It is unknown if this will affect the film’s planned June 2017 release date.
