A well-known nightclub in Southampton has been closed down by police due to an ongoing investigation into criminal activity at the venue.

The club’s license has been withdrawn due to a current investigation into alleged blackmail and false imprisonment linked to the nightclub. Hampshire police have declined to release any information about the alleged offences but it is believed that no one required medical attention as a result. Three people have been arrested in connection with the venue.

Police officers have confirmed that a 42-year-old man from Southampton, along with a man from Romsey and another in London were arrested in connection to the criminal activity, but all three have now been released on bail. An investigation by the Daily Echo revealed that the 70-year-old club owner Robin Felgate was one of the men who had been arrested.

Proposals by police to close down the venue were agreed upon in a hearing in which both press and public were prohibited from attending. The decision was made “in order to protect the public and those that might be caught in the crossfire as well as to address the risk of further incident at the premises” said chairman Carole Cunio.
