Preview: Reading Festival 2013 – Friday

1

Reading Festival 2013 is just over a month away and here at The Edge we are getting very excited by this year’s stunning line up. Over the next few days we will bring you a stage by stage run down of who is playing on each day of the festival.

The headliner for Friday on the Main Stage is the one and only Green Day. After last year‘s early morning surprise set I’m sure festival-goers will be pleased to see the trio performing a full length set highlighting the best of their extensive back catalogue. Also on the Main Stage are System of a Down; certainly a suitable warm up for Green Day. The Deftones will also be playing on the Main Stage on Friday as well as Southampton favourite Frank Turner. The raucous Bring Me The Horizon will be there to showcase their newest record Sempiternal and they will be performing after pop-punk legends New Found Glory.

If Green Day aren’t for you over on the NME/BBC Radio 1 Stage Skrillex will be headlining. Joining him on the Friday will be A$AP Rocky and festival favourite Major Lazer. Earlier in the evening will be the wonderful Bastille and after last year‘s roaring success we can expect a great show as the guys showcase their number one album Bad BloodThe NME/BBC Radio 1 Stage will be playing host to some of the hottest new bands such as Deap Valley, Kodaline, Frightened Rabbit and Peace.

Sub Focus will be claiming the top spot on the Radio 1 Dance Stage. Fenech-Soler and hot new talent Iggy Azalea will be playing as well as one of my favourite new acts Clean Bandit. Their experimental style of Classical mashed with Dance will set the Dance Stage on fire. I’m very pleased to tell you that over on the Lock Up/Rock Stage, punk-rock legends Alkaline Trio will be performing in the headline slot. A well deserved spot for the festival veterans.

The Festival Republic Stage is where I spent a lot of my time at Reading 2012 and this year is looking to be just as exciting. Crystal Fighters will be playing in the headline slot. Also to grace the stage will be Chvches and after making it onto Radio 1’s Sound of 2013 shortlist they’re definitely not one to miss. The Strypes, Kate Nash and the fantastic duo that is MS MR will be playing throughout the day on Friday as well. Finally on the 1xtra Stage will be Wiley, Toddla T and P Money just to name a few of the great acts to grace the new stage addition.

Overall a lot of variety to kick off the first day of Reading Festival 2013. Be sure to check out the official Reading Festival 2013 website for the full line up and any other information.
