Union Films: What’s Coming Up This Week (26/01/2015 – 01/02/2015)

Finally the exams are over and our new season has started. We can take a step back, and look forward to the rest of the season, which is already shaping up to be one one of the best we’ve ever had. After an excellent Sci-Fi packed weekend, our full lineup can be found on our website, but this week:

The first film in our regular Tuesday slot this season is Teenage Mutant Ninja TurtlesThe villainous criminal organization known as the Foot Clan has been terrorizing New York City. The future seems bleak, until four brothers emerge from the sewers as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. They will need to work with reporter April O’Neil and her cameraman Vern Fenwick to save the city

This weeks showing from the Phoenix Film Society is the Argentine film WalkoldaSet in 1960, the film depicts Nazi war criminal, Josef Mengele as he is exiled to South America. Famous for his abominable human experiments that he performed in Auschwitz, a family take him in, unaware that they were housing one of the most dangerous criminals in history.

Acclaimed at many international film festivals, Wakolda is definitely worth a watch.

Our first Film this Sunday is The Judge. Robert Downey Jr. plays Hank Palmer, a successful defense attorney in Chicago. Whilst going through a bitter divorce, he is suddenly called to his family home with news that his mother has passed away. As he is reunited with his brother and his father, a Judge, he is called to his father’s aid as he is charged with a fatal hit and run.

Oscar nominated Nightcrawlerwill be our second showing this Sunday. Set in the underbelly of contemporary Los Angeles, Lou Boom (Jake Gyllenhaal) is desperate for work. He soon finds a group of freelance camera crews, whose living involves filming the murder and mayhem that occurs throughout the city. Lou enters the world of nightcrawling,  sirens in the distance equals potential income if they can reach and film it in time.
