Union Films: What’s Coming Up This Week (20/10/2014 – 26/10/2014)

What a fantastic week it’s been: from crying at The Fault in our Stars to revelling in the superhero brilliance of X-Men Movie Marathon with our unique T-shirts, magnets and cocktails. It’ll be difficult to beat but we’ve got another great week of films coming up! From the story of childhood, to the end of mankind via mind-benders and Singapore.

However, if you find that just reading about what we have coming up isn’t exciting enough then make sure you tune into Surge Radio every Monday at 7. Our very own radio show has some great music, awesome hosts and competitions where you can win FREE films on top of a round up of the films we’ve got coming up at your student cinema!

Boyhood, Tuesday 21st at 7pmboyhood

We start the week off with the critically acclaimed Boyhood, director Richard Linklater’s latest offering. This revolutionary film follows one boy for 12 years as we watch him grow up right in front of us.

So join us as we join Mason as he deals with his parent’s messy divorce, the trials and tribulations of school and the pains of growing up from a six year old into an adult in this beautifully shot one of a kind experience.

ilo iloIlo Ilo, Wednesday 22nd at 7.30pm

This week’s film in association with the Phoenix film society is Ilo Ilo, a Singaporean drama. Set in the mid 1990s, the film chronicles the relationship between a family and their maid from the the Filipino province of Ilo Ilo. Can this stranger grow close enough to become part of the family?

Being the first feature film from Singapore to have won an award at the Cannes Film Festival, this film is definitely not to be missed for the great price of just £3!

inceptionInception, Thursday 23rd at 7pm

Our celebration of the classics of cinema, or Throwback Thursday to its friends, returns this week with Inception, Christopher Nolan’s psychological sci-fi action film. Leonardo DiCaprio is Don Cobb a thief who steals dreams rather than money by travelling into the minds of others to steal their deepest, darkest secrets.

Come and enjoy this dream within a dream within a dream for absolutely nothing because, like all our Throwback films, it is completely FREE!

Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Saturday 25th at 5pm and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Saturday 25th at 8pm (3D) and Sunday 26th at 8pm (2D)

The latest Transformers is this Sunday’s 5 o’clock film. Watch as a group of powerful, ingenious businessmen and scientists attempt to learn from past Transformer incursions and push the boundaries of technology beyond what they can control, all while an ancient, powerful Transformer menace sets Earth in his cross-hairs.

Returning for it’s second run, it’s your last chance to see the film on the big screen.
