American Horror Story has been renewed for a fifth season by FX.

The news comes after the Ryan Murphy-created series opened with its most viewers to date, bringing in over 10 million people. The figure attached to the debut episode of Freak Show, the fourth instalment in the anthology series, also meant that the opener was the most-watched TV show in the network’s history.

Breaking records everywhere, American Horror Story is a force to be reckoned with, and is supported by the masterful performances by the likes of Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates and Jessica Lange. With the latter having reportedly said that Freak Show will be her last season, the casting of the now-confirmed fifth season hovers in the air with much uncertainty.

Murphy, who has recently been confirmed to be creating another anthology series entitled American Crime Story, has said that he has already planted clues as to what the fifth series will focus on in the beginning episodes of Freak Show.

The fifth season will air in October 2015, with Freak Show beginning in the UK on 21st October on FOX.
