It has been revealed that the Game of Thrones star, Richard Madden, will play gamekeeper, Oliver Mellors, in Jed Mercurio’s new adaptation of Lady Chatterley’s Lover for BBC One; a series based on the classic piece of 20th century literature which was originally written by the controversial D. H. Lawrence.

Madden, who played Robb Stark in the HBO fantasy series, will star opposite Holliday Grainger (The Borgias) as Lady Chatterley and James Norton, who starred opposite Sarah Lancashire in BBC One’s Happy Valley, as her war-wounded husband, Sir Clifford Chatterley.

Mercurio, fresh from the success of the second series of BBC Two’s Line of Duty, will also direct the 90-minute drama, which is being made by Sherlock producer Hartswood Films. It will air as one of a series of classic 20th century literature adaptations next year and will prove interesting to see how the BBC innovate universally-told tales.

While the BBC haven’t currently announced an air date, the series is rumoured for some time next year.
