Artist transforms Disney princesses into porn stars

The stereotypically flawless ‘Disney princess’ image seems to be no longer as an artist has redesigned the clean-cut, classic look.

In his series ‘DIRTYLAND’, James Dillon Wright takes his art to another level by combining graffiti with other aspects of pop culture, pushing against the boundaries of Disney’s intentions by transforming Disney princesses into porn stars.

The Guardian quoted him, saying: “I believe it’s my job as an artist to question the very things around me and to continuously break down the traditional and more conventional  ways of making art. It is my intention to raise or lower your eyebrows in one way or another.”

Wright has been faced with a lot of criticism for his work, and seeing as his work is in response to such a well-known figure as Walt Disney, it is hardly surprising. Whilst some hail the art as beautiful pieces of work – in particular his piece on Pocahontas – and feel that every artist has freedom of speech and therefore the right to express themselves through their work as they see fit, others are far more sceptical.

Many of the public are stricken by these pornographic artworks as they feel it is immoral: unjustly robbing children of their precious innocence and corrupting their minds with adult content too early. Why not leave children to enjoy their youth instead of introducing them to the harsh graphic realities of life too soon? However, one thing is for certain: Wright is not shying away from stirring up controversy!
